PORTA 7 MASTERPLAN

Barcelona, Spain

The brief for this open international competition was to re-imagine large areas of public landscape and urban infrastructure in Barcelona. Our conceptual proposal introduces a new type of productive landscape that creates new routes through the city and aims to address the lack of clean water for irrigation of the large parks and green areas. Among them Park Guell, which sits at the southern edge of the competition site. While introducing a downhill flow of clean water, the structure also promotes a pedestrian movement uphill, strengthening the link between the city and the mountain area of Collserolla.

As a modern reinterpretation of the classical Roman aqueducts that were used to transport water into the cities, the proposed infrastructure includes processes of cleansing grey water from the surrounding residential areas through a series of pools with specially selected plants that naturally purifies the water.

The project was developed in collaboration with MiAS Arquitectes and Martha Schwartz Partners, and received a 2nd place award.
