LJUSBÅGEN
Stockholm, Sweden
Ljusbågen is a residential building with 37 apartments, a dedicated garage, and a pavilion that serves both as a communal space for residents and as a public café, inviting passers-by to stop and enjoy the surroundings. The building sits atop a hill surrounded by parkland on three sides, offering expansive views over Norra Djurgården, Lilla Värtan, and Stockholm city. Nearby are Hakon Ahlberg's modernist narrow buildings from the 1930s, a stylistic reference that has helped shape the refined design of Ljusbågen.
In contrast to Ahlberg's more enclosed functionalist buildings, we have made the most of the site’s generous views by incorporating extensive glazing in the facade, allowing the surrounding landscape to become a part of the living experience in these exclusive apartments. The housing types are varied, with an unusual stacked layout. On the ground floor, the apartments are designed as duplex urban townhouses, providing private bedrooms with no visibility from outside and private gardens. The middle floors consist of single-storey apartments of various sizes, while the top floor is set back, creating a shared rooftop terrace for the larger penthouse apartments.
