NUN’S ISLAND MASTERPLAN

Galway, Ireland

Our work with Slakthusområdet spans from the comprehensive conceptual programming of a large part of the area, which includes the highly strategic zones that surround and are located inside Slakthushallarna, the original listed buildings dating back to 1915, down to the intricate, detailed design of both Hus 26, which is now open to the public and features vibrant restaurants such as Solen and Bar Montan, and Hus 24, which has now become the new home for the popular music and club venue Fållan.

The overarching theme of the project has revolved around the ambitious creation of a lively destination for food, culture, and unique experiences. In order to achieve this vision, we have collaborated closely with Atrium Ljungberg in the programming and conceptualization of the area. The highest concentration of cultural and public destinations can be found within the building cluster known as Slakthushallarna, for which we applied an innovative adaptive re-use strategy. New windows and doors have been added where needed, and the interiors have been carefully re-imagined as raw, urban and modern spaces with a clear link to the history of the buildings and area.

This project serves as a clear example of our multi-disciplinary approach to urban design and development, and it stands as a compelling case study for our design and development process that successfully transforms an abstract vision into a feasible and attractive reality.
